Hello TCA Family,
As you are most likely already aware, Alex Mansfield has made the decision to step away from TCA this year. Alex has been a cornerstone of this club, both as a coach and as a player, for almost 30 years. As a staff and as a club we want to send him into the future with a tremendous amount of gratitude, well-wishes, and more than a little sadness and reluctance.
In the spirit of celebrating Alex’s enormous contributions to this club, and the indelible impact he has made on our membership, our business, and the pathos that makes TCA such a special place, we are throwing him a going away party on Sunday, January 21st beginning at 3pm.
Those of us with the good fortune to know Mansfield well know that he’s not much for loud parties, huge crowds, or fancy-dos. But Alex does love competition and camaraderie, and there are few people in this world who can compare to Alex’s charitable, altruistic nature. So, to honor the Alex Mansfield that we all know and love, we are sending him off with a tennis-based fundraising party.
All proceeds raised from this event will be donated to the Somos Unidos Foundation in Alex’s name, to help promote athletic development in our state.
From 3pm to 5pm on the 21st, Alex will join our pro staff on court for some dingles ladder play. (If you are unfamiliar with dingles, it is a doubles-based competition in which two cross-court singles points are played simultaneously. When one point ends, the point that is still ongoing becomes a full-court doubles point). For a monetary donation of your choosing, TCA members will be welcome to join Alex or another member of our pro-staff on court in a game of dingles. When dingles play concludes at 5pm, TCA will provide some snacks and beer in the clubhouse.
If you are planning on attending, please RSVP to club@tca-tennis.net by Friday, January 19th so that we can provide enough food and drink for everyone.
We strongly encourage you all to come out and help us celebrate Alex, and send him off into his new ventures with all the warmth and community that we have come to expect from our TCA family.
